May 14, 2010 Day 10

Well it has been a while since my last post. As usual my life is like most it get busy.

History:
So, I left you last time with my first memory, I also mentioned there isn't a whole lot that I remember from when I was really little. I mostly remember snippets of memories. We lived in a 3 bedroom ranch style home it originally had a one car attached garage but my parents decided that they needed more room so they knocked down the wall between the living room and garage, put a big bay window in where the garage door was and a stone fire place against the far wall with two huge toy boxes flanking each side of the fireplace. It was so cool when it was done but man was it hell to go through. My parent fought the entire time (they were doing all the work themselves) it was insane. I was really young, I have no idea how old I was and I have no recollection what the house looked like before they did the construction. I do remember how excited we were to light that first fire and to have a place to put our toys. But the best was our first Christmas having the Christmas tree in front of the bay window and our stockings hanging on the fireplace it really looked beautiful, and I think my parents were really happy. Of course that bay window would be a huge source of contention, the seal was constantly breaking so we often had ice forming on the inside of the window. I remember as kids we thought is was so cool we could write our name in the ice on the window and at Christmas we didn't have to put the fake "snow/ice" in the corners of our window because we had the real thing. My parent felt differently as you can imagine. My dad being a "mister fix it" had to fix it himself and never quite getting it right. My mom wanted to higher a professional to fix the windows but my dad insisted he could do it and it would save them money. Huge argument, eventually many years later they did have a professional come out and replace the windows, thank you God for small favors.

Today:
Well for the past 8 days I have been very busy with school and family. I think I told everyone that I am working on a BA-Vocal major and Judaic Studies minor. I found out at the beginning of the summer semester, so about 3 weeks ago that my Vocal instructor was leaving OU and I was going to  have to find/choose a new instructor. This may seem like a really little thing, but for someone like me who does not have as much time as say an 18 year old working towards the same degree it is very big. I have been going back and forth between two instructors, both excellent instructors, one would have benefited me because of her knowledge of the Hebrew language and Jewish liturgical music, however I would have to go to her home which would have been a little inconvenient  and also there was the possibility that there could be a personality conflict. The other instructor I knew there would be no personality conflict, I would be able to continue to have instruction at OU, however she lacked the knowledge of the Hebrew language and Jewish liturgical music, although she does have some. It was a tough decision but I chose the latter and I had my first lesson yesterday. It was wonderful, I am really going to enjoy this year! I also had my first Bio exam yesterday so I have spent the last week studying for that, it was completely insane it was on 8 chapters in on week, I always forget how intense the summer semester is. My daughter had her spring concert on Wednesday night and they did an amazing job. I met with my Rabbi last week, I am covering a couple of services for my cantor who is on maternity leave, so I have been preparing for the services. I am also The president of a student group called "Association for Music Students at OU" and we are planning a big fund raiser in October, and it is my job to set the meeting times and set up the agenda and of course run the meetings, it is like having a part time job. All this plus practicing/lessons piano, guitar, Tutoring for Theory and Aural Skills and homework, not to mention the basic duties of being a wife and mom. Welcome to my world, I wouldn't have it any other way.

This was my week, Life is good! Tell me about yours.

May 6, 2010 - Day two

So I was thinking of how I would like this blog to work and I though what I would do is give a little bit of may past history to begin and then continue with my day. I also wanted to let anyone who may choose to follow this blog to feel free to tell their story, I would love to hear it.

History:
I was born on August 13th, 1966 in Garden City Michigan. I grew up in the small town next to Garden City called Westland. Westland is a very blue collar town, and like so many generations before me I find myself feeling like I grew up in a much simpler time, although my life was far from simple. I do not remember much from when I was really little, one of my earliest memories is not a good one, but it is kind of funny. When I was 4 years old we had a Poodle named Robbie, I also have two sister's an older one who is 6 and a younger one who is 1 who cries all the time. Robbie had been my parents dog since before we were born, he was used to getting attention when he barked and since my little sister had come along he had been getting less and less attention. So to get attention he started to pee on things, and then one day I was playing with a game and the dog was barking, my little sister was crying and no one was paying attention to the dog so the dog found something to pee on and that something was me. It was horrifying and needless to say really upset my mom. So they ended up deciding to give Robbie away. We were all really up set but none more than my older sister she considered Robbie her dog and she now blamed me for mom and dad getting rid of him. I know, funny but not such a good first memory.

Today:
Today was not such a great day. I had Gynecology appointment today, I have been having my cycle twice a month for the past two months so I went in and of course I had to have a biopsy which made me feel like crap for the rest of the day. It seems my body likes to do this once a year, at least it's kind enough to wait until summer so I have time to deal with it. Anyway, after my appointment I came home took the dogs for a walk, did some cleaning around the house and then went to class. In Biology we learned about the different types of tissues, body cavities, and digestive system. Our biology teacher is very nerdy and he keeps trying to crack these jokes that just are not funny, for instance today he was trying to be funny when he was talking about skin cancer about not laying in the sun, he made a crack about "he is all for girls in bikini's but you should wear sun screen". It came across sounding creepy. After Bio I came home ate dinner and then went to tutoring for Music Theory. My tutor is a young lady that I go to school with who is absolutely brilliant. Then I came home and did more cleaning practiced the piano and then watched "Vampire Diaries" and now I am watching "Fringe".

That was my day, I hope yours was better.
Thanks for listening.

May 5, 2010 - Day One

As I was driving to school today I was thinking to myself I really should start journaling again, then I thought I really should work on my book that I keep starting. However both of these, although good past times, are futile. Then I thought maybe I would start a blog. Maybe if I tell my story in a place were people may read it I would continue to write it and who knows what will happen. So here it goes.

I am a wife of 21 years, I have 2 children a son 20 and a daughter 16, and currently I am in school full time at Oakland University working towards a Bachelors of Arts degree concentration in Vocal Music along with a Judaic Studies Minor.

Currently my life is filled with studying, practicing piano and guitar, trying to find time to go to the gym so I can take off these extra pounds I have put on and spend time with my family.

I have a wonderful exchange student from Denmark living with us. She will be going home soon and that makes me sad.

Today my day was pretty uneventful. Yesterday I went to the gym for the first time in about 3 months so I was a little sore this morning. I decided to take my two dogs for a walk, so I stretched and took them for a 2 mile walk, they need to loose weight also but I didn't realize how bad until one of them started to walk slower than me. Anyway we made it home and I did some homework, took a shower, and left for school. I am taking Basic Biology and today was the second day of class, we are talking about the make-up of cells and how they function in our bodies. We had to do a little experiment at the end of class to measure our heart rate, we had to measure our pulse then jog up and down 2 flights of stairs and then measure our pulse again. Not a big deal right? Wrong! Not such a big deal if you are 18 and physically active, however when you are 43 with arthritis in both knees and over weight it is pretty difficult. But I did it, then I drove home and beside making dinner I have been a vegetable the rest of the night except for making this blog.

That was my day, I hope you had a great day and thank you for listening.
